Spain's ability to reach analogue switch off by its target date of 2010 has been questioned by a recent study by Fundación Alternativas of the Complutense University of Madrid. The report’s questions have been prompted by the failure of local DTT analogue switch off that should have started on January 1. But, says the report, not all local TV stations are transmitting in digital with a large number still broadcasting in analogue. So the report argues that the Spanish government could very well put off the 2010 switch off although this decision would have a political cost. As for DTT content, the report criticizes these as “not good enough to entice viewers to change from analogue to digital TV system…The digital contents are not responding to the official demands that by law require original, new and attractive programs. And as for interactive services these barely exist," the study adds. And last but not least in order to reach a future TV of quality the report calls for an Audiovisual Law and an Audiovisual Media National Council which would be an independent organization working for the good of Spain's audiovisual market. source: Rapid TV News
