France’s Center for Cinematography (CNC) agreed 228 domestic movies last year for a total investment of €1.201 billon. According to its annual survey, French networks pre-acquisitions amounted to almost 30.5 % of the invested sum. Compared to 2006, the networks investment grew 23.3% to €57.84 million, while Canal+ broke records. The pay-TV channel invested €160.28 million, up 15.9%, into 140 movies and pre-acquired 126 French films. While theme channels TPS Cinéma and CinéCinéma respectively invested €20.46 million (up 46.2%) and €13.75 million (up 47.5%) into 41 and 81 movies, the CNC points out free-to-air networks contributed to 104 movies, including 94 French ones, for a total amount of €124.92 million, up 22.6%. But TF1 was the only one stepping back with an investment 6.8% lower. The network gave €41.10 million to 20 feature films. France Télévisions contribution was up 25.3%, breaking down into 48 movies. It was mostly due to France 3 that raised its contribution to €23.49 million (into 25 movies), up 60.9%. Though minor, M6’s investment showed 152% growth rising to €22.68 million poured into 15 feature films compared to seven in 2006. Last year, 63 feature films, including 19 documentaries, were funded by CNC without any TV network contributions. Source: Rapid TV News
