TV content on German iTunes

US computer company Apple has commenced offering TV content on its online media portal iTunes in Germany. Series, documentaries and children’s programmes from German television broadcasters and producers ZDF, Sat.1, ProSieben and Brainpool as well as US broadcasters ABC and MTV Networks will be shown. More than 35 series can be downloaded under www.itunes.de, including German productions such as Stromberg, Switch! and Die Niels Ruf Show along with US series like Lost, Desperate Housewives, Grey’s Anatomy and South Park.

Each episode costs between €1.99 and €2.49 and is paid for by credit card. The programmes can be played on computers as well as mobile devices such as an iPod or iPhone. An expansion of the offer is planned.

There has been speculation for several months that Apple would offer TV content next to music, audio books and music videos via iTunes in Germany. Until now television programmes have only been available on iTunes in the USA, Canada and Great Britain.
