Spain: One in four facing '09 switch off

One in four Spanish homes will see analogue switch-off next year in order to reach on time the national switch over date of April 2010.
According to latest Impulsa TDT figures by December 31 2009, 32% of Spain's population will get rid of analogue television. In total, Impulsa calculates by that date there will be 14.5 million people receiving only digital television.

Among the main cities benefiting from first analogue switch-offs whithin the National Plan of Transition to Digital are Zarazona, Oviedo, Segovia, Vitoria, Huelva and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

In July 2009 a total of 1,278 towns will cease to receive analogue television. Among them are cities of the region of Castilla y León, more than 100 in Andalucía, Aragón and Castilla-La Mancha and tens of towns in the rest of regions.

Spain's transition to digital TV started in November 2005 the official date for its relaunching. Latest figures confirm right now more than 6 million Spanish homes get DTT signals, more than 9 million digital receivers have been sold so far and share is above 11.5% of total TV viewing.
