Fears over Spanish TV piracy

Spain's Commercial Television Association (UTECA) has expressed fears of increasing levels of signal piracy. The fears concern the nation’s shift towards digital transmission. UTECA says this move could see increased signal piracy from illegal broadcasters, and has called for increased legislation to help combat TV piracy. UTECA has asked the government to set up an official commission in which the regional governments are represented and with an impartial judge in order to close down any illegal and unlicensed local TV transmissions whether broadcasting in analogue or digital.

The association also raised fears concerning the upcoming digital switch over which, when it happens, might leave some regions and cities without access to TV signals because replacement digitalization won't be implemented on schedule.
