Premiere VOD from DVD release date | | From April 25, Premiere will become Germany’s first pay-TV operator to offer feature films from Warner Bros on its video-on-demand services Premiere Direkt and Direkt+ at the time of the official DVD release.
Subscribers will be able to view selected Hollywood blockbusters around four months after they have been screened in cinemas from €4 per film. The first titles include the Oscar-winning fantasy epic The Golden Compass (2007) with Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig, end-of-the-world thriller I Am Legend (2007) with Will Smith and the tragicomedy The Bucket List (2007) with Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman. Until now films were shown on pay-TV only after a period of usually three months after their release on DVD.
“This change signifies a revolution in the German TV market,” said Hans Seger, chief programming and technology officer at Premiere. “Similar models used by Warner Bros in the US have shown that there is a high level of interest at this earlier stage in the distribution. We are sure that other studios will notice this trend and follow soon.”
