Mockridge wins News Corp Europe

Tom Mockridge, Sky Italia’s CEO (pictured, left), is also now chief executive of News Corp’s European TV interests. What exactly are they?

James Murdoch, busy building up News Corp’s assets in mainland Europe, has appointed Mockridge as his right-hand man. The assets are considerable, and growing rapidly. Besides Sky Italia, there’s a growing News Corp stake in Germany’s Premiere, and other stand-alone TV interests in Poland, Turkey and Bulgaria. Mockridge’s remit does not cross the English Channel into BSkyB territory. That stays firmly under Sky CEO Jeremy Darroch and his team.

Marty Pompadur, a long-time Murdoch “point man” in Europe, will now concentrate on News Corp’s interests in Russia (mainly radio), and its outdoor advertising businesses.

James Murdoch said: "Tom has led Sky Italia to become one of the world's most successful pay-TV businesses, now with more than 4.5 million customers. Tom will extend his successful stewardship of Sky Italia to develop our European broadcast operations across the territory.
