The BBC has paid £123,000 to charity after admitting its service provider kept money donated during a premium rate TV phone-in. A review conducted by PriceWaterhouse Coopers found that service provider Audiocall failed to pay out £106,000 to charity. It also kept £6,000 from TV show Eurovision: Making Your Mind Up. Viewers were charged to call voting lines after being wrongly told that lines had opened. A statement from the BBC said, "The sums due to charity have now been repaid with interest. We would like to apologise to viewers and to the charities for this serious error." Rival broadcaster ITV was fined £5.7m by regulator Ofcom last week for failing to properly manage its premium rate phone-in competitions. Source: NMA
