YouTube and the BBC to Join Forces | | The BBC has signed a deal with YouTube to launch three channels on ~ YouTubecom
The BBC and YouTube will be joining hands across the water as they inked a deal that will give the BBC three branded channels on YouTube.com. The channels will feature clips from the British public broadcaster's entertainment shows as well as advertising-funded news from the BBC's global outlets.
The deal is a nonexclusive partnership but it opens the way for the BBC to extend its content across other broadband portals and is the company's biggest commitment to any portal outside its own http://www.bbc.co.uk site. It will not cover any long-form programming but will allow users to link through to the BBC's own Web portal if they want to download BBC content.
The new agreement allows fans of BBC shows like Doctor Who and Life on Mars to watch clips and special content from BBC shows on two of the branded channels. Users will be able to comment on clips as well as rate them, and of course recommend them to friends. Users will also be able to post their own video responses and to communicate with viewers and the BBC. YouTube will act as a window that will allow users to link to the BBC's own interactive media player for on-demand content.
