ITV puts on £1,000 free bingo | | Scandal-hit ITV is trying to win back viewers' confidence with late-night free bingo this summer.
Punters can win £1,000 per game playing at home and the channel promises no rip-off phone lines.
Itv was this month fined £5.675million after viewers were conned by premium rate charges.
But a source said: "We'll be giving away free money with no premium phone lines involved at all.
"Itv hope the idea will boost ratings, making more money from advertising."
The five-times-a-week bingo, hosted by GMTV's Michael Underwood and Melinda Messenger, will be in a late-night ratings battle with Big Brother.
It starts with a £25,000 jackpot on Wednesday.
