Jetix and Disney link for distribution

Jetix Europe has signed a major EMEA distribution deal with Disney’s Disney-ABC International TV (DAIT). In essence it means that Disney, which owns 74% of Jetix Europe, is absorbing the sales and distribution arm of Jetix which itself is often recognised by viewers as the former Fox Kids operation.

Jetix has 14 channels across Europe and the Mid-East targeting youngsters aged 6-14, and its signals cover 58 countries and 19 different languages. Additionally, Jetix has recently launched GXT, a pay-TV channel for Italian teens.

DAIT's responsibilities, said a press statement, will span all platforms including cable and satellite as well as digital services such as IPTV and PPV. Jetix also joins the other Disney-backed properties including the Disney branded channels as well as ESPN Classic and NASN.

Paul Taylor, Chief Executive of Jetix Europe, said: "The new deal with DAIT will allow us to benefit from Disney's strong market presence in all of our key territories. Channel distribution is a key revenue stream for us and I am confident that being part of this first class integrated distribution operation will deliver significant benefits over the medium to long term."

Tom Toumazis, EVP/MD of Disney-ABC International Television EMEA & Canada, added: "This agreement completes the EMEA integration of our Channel and Programme distribution assets and teams, to better serve our international clients and deliver value for our Company, adding Jetix channels to the unique brand strength of Disney and ESPN channels."

Jetix, as far as Europe is concerned, launched as Fox Kids back in 1996, re-branding as Jetix on Jan 1 2005. Jetix Europe is listed on the Euronext Amsterdam market where 26% of the issued share capital is in free float. Disney holds the balance. Prior to October 2001 Fox Kids was a 50/50 j-v between News Corp and Haim Saban.
