Double Your Money tipped for TV comeback

Classic TV quiz Double Your Money could be revived, with Richard Madeley reportedly being lined up to take on Hughie Green's role as host.

Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly's production company Gallowgate is understood to be developing a new version of the 1950s quiz, according to Broadcast magazine.

The original Double Your Money aired on ITV from 1955 to 1968 and it is thought the new version could end up on ITV1.

Rights to the format are owned by Green's former lover Christina Sharples, who is reportedly keen to see it revived.

The recent BBC4 docudrama Hughie Green, Most Sincerely, is also thought to have piqued interest in Double Your Money.

Discussions are said to be at an early stage, with Madeley - who is currently presenting the final series of Channel 4's Richard & Judy before it moves over to UKTV - being lined up to host.

Both Ant and Dec and Madeley share the same agent, Russ Lindsay at James Grant Media, who is understood to be playing a key part in negotiations.

ITV has had success with reviving a number of other classic gameshow formats, including Mr & Mrs as All Star Mr & Mrs.

Neither ITV or Gallowgate Productions had responded to calls for comment before publication.
