Portugal Telecom wins pay on DTT

The bidding for Portugal’s pay-DTT licences has been won by the country’s incumbent telco Portugal Telecom (PT), with Sweden's Airplus TV losing out.

The pay-DTT licenses will be valid for 15 years starting from the date of its giving.

Portugal is the last European country to licence DTT services and has adopted two business models for the new technology. So the country will have both free-to-air and pay DTT in the near future.

PT is also applying for the free-to-air DTT channel licences, with the process of giving out free-to-air licenses still ongoing. It is very likely Portugal Telecom will also be the winner here.
