SmarDTV to be bundled with Italian Samsung TVs

SmarDTV has announced that all Samsung televisions sold in the Italian market will come bundled with the SmarCAM Italia and a Mediaset smart card. It means new owners of a Samsung set will be able to subscribe to the Mediaset Premium DTT pay package without the need to purchase any additional equipment.

“The decision by Samsung to bundle SmarCAM Italia and Mediaset smart cards is a turning point: The conditional access module passes from niche to mass market status. A CAM can now become an essential TV accessory.” said Eric Chaubert, CEO at SmarDTV.

Over the past two years SmarDTV, backed by security company Kudelski, has worked closely with the major TV set manufacturers, the Italian broadcasters Mediaset, Telecom Italia Media, and Pangea, and with the DGTVi committee representing all TV broadcasters in Italy. The result of these efforts is not only the SmarCAM Italia product, but also a set of implementation guidelines, an interoperability partner program, and a broadcaster certification process.
