A new book tells would-be broadcasters to initially ignore satellite TV and instead concentrate on internet TV to reach viewers. The Internet TV Book by David Ingram is a step-by-step guide to getting content on air, with easy-to-understand chapters on how to create and build your own TV station. The book explains the differences between IPTV, and “broadcasters” like YouTube, and covers the challenges and opportunities that internet TV presents. The $600 figure is the cost of sending material to the first few hundred viewers. Ingram, and his UK-based company Intervision TV Ltd, have been broadcasting internet-based TV for nine years, in fact almost the whole lifetime of the technology. He says the book has been written for people from a wide variety of backgrounds. “We have tried to make very few assumptions about a reader’s level of knowledge. Some will know the business planning aspect, but not the internet or video production side of things. Some will run their own production companies or produce programmes, but will not be familiar with the business planning and internet marketing aspects. Some will be business managers in charities, trade unions, professional bodies, or commercial organisations who have had “The Internet TV project” allocated to them and need to come up with a project plan ASAP!” “For those thinking of starting a broadcast TV station or broadcasting programmes, pretty much everything in the book is relevant, especially the production tips - think of your internet TV station as a test bed and a development process for the real thing,” says Ingram.
