Volume sales of digital set-top boxes with a hard disk drive grew to 473,000 units in the year-ending April 2008, according to GfK Retail and Technology, representing sales of £50.5 million. This represents increases of 90.7% and 44.2% respectively, and also indicating a fall in prices. The largest sub-sector within the product area remains digital set-top boxes without a hard disk drive, which grew to 4.3 million units in the year to April 2008, representing a 17.8% increase compared to the previous 12-month period. At the same time the average price of the receivers has fallen from £31 to £24, pushing down the sales value from £155.7 million to £104.9 million. The £20 category is continuing to grow and this accounted for 58.8% of total sales in April 2008, compared to 26.4% in the same period last year. Source: BroadbandTVNews
