Last Saturday, July 12, 2008 at 19:00 CET, Euronews launched in its eighth language and began broadcasting in Arabic 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The new version has an annual budget of €5 million and is paid for by the European Commission. The inauguration of the new service was held at the Arab World Institute in Paris. The introduction of the new language version of the channel follows Euronews’ successful bid for a competitive tender from the European Union. On December 6, 2007 in Brussels, the channel and the European Commission signed a service agreement to extend the channel’s programming to include Arabic. Source: BroadbandTVNews
