Eurosport confirms UK HD launch

Eurosport is today launching its HD service into the UK and Ireland, the TF1-owned channel has confirmed. Eurosport HD will take up channel 412 on the Sky EPG, alongside the established British Eurosport and Eurosport 2, becoming the 19th HD channel available in the UK.

Jean Thierry Augustin, general manager, Distribution and Development, Eurosport Group, said the HD service would enhance the channel content offer for Sky subscribers: “Sport, especially Live, is spectacular in HD, it transforms the viewing experience for sports fans and as the leading sports TV channel in Europe. It was a natural move for Eurosport to enrich its TV offer with HD.”

Yesterday, Broadband TV News broke the news that Eurosport HD and Eurosport News had been testing on satellite at 28 degrees East. Eurosport News is unlikely to return in the immediate future; the transmissions on Sky were present as part of the testing proceedure.
