Balearic Islands to launch satellite channel

The state owned regional broadcaster of the Spanish Balearic Islands is to launch a special free-to-air satellite channel, IBSat, on Hispasat on August 1st. Programming will consist of a mix of local content, as well as touristic programming about the islands.

Ente Público de Radiotelevisión de las Islas Baleares (EPRTVIB) has only recently started broadcasting locally and is now aiming for a Europe wide audience. Programming about the islands should attract tourists from all over Europe. The broadcaster chose Hispasat and has no plans to include Astra, where most of the other Spanish regional broadcasters are available FTA.
