Olympics' opening numbers

Friday’s opening ceremony to the Beijing Olympic Games achieved some decent viewer numbers, despite being transmitted in the early afternoon in Europe.

In Australia, where the ceremony started late at night and went on until 2am, 3.3 million metropolitan viewers tuned in for Seven’s coverage. In the huge US market, an average of 34.2 million watched NBC’s broadcast of the event, delayed by 12 hours because of the time difference. The broadcast started at 7.30pm, rather than 7.30am, had it been aired live.

European data from Eurodata Worldwide TV, below.

Country Number of viewers
Austria 487,000
Bulgaria 517,000
Czech Rep. 822,000

Italy 5,439,000

I was in awe of the opening ceremony, having seen it on Europsort HD at a customers house.

Something to cherish for the future (well until 2012 anyway).

There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness"

My System: Various digiboxes, broken Nokia 9800S, numerous analogue boxes. My lovely little lappy, HP Omnibook 6100

Cant help but agree with CH. The bit that really took my breath away was when the olympic rings had coallesced from dust peeled away from the floor and started rising inito the air.

That was a real "Wow, how did they do that?" moment.
