T-Home gives IPTV an extra push

IFA 2008 - BERLIN. German IPTV operator T-Home, part of the incumbent Deutsche Telekom, is to give its IPTV service T-Entertain a big push in order to reach the goal of 500,000 customers by the end of the year. At a press conference in Berlin, the company said it now has 10 million DSL customers.

In order to get customers acquainted with the service, the providers offers viewers the opportunity to test the service for free during a two-month period. An service agent will come around install the equipment, including a PVR enable set-top box and a WiFi router, for the trial. After the free period, people can subscribe to the basic Entertain package for an additional €10 a month.

Following an agreement with the ProSiebenSat.1 Group, T-Home will add a further 2,000 titles of TV movies, series, soaps and shows to its VOD library. These titles will be available at no additional cost to the viewers.T-Home also will offer Warner Bros movie titles on a Day & Date basis, making them available at the same day as the DVD release.

The operator has also added interactive functionality with the Bundesliga live coverage. All Bundesliga subscribers can now call up the best goals, top match scenes or controversial refereeing decisions at the press of a button. The first half of the Bundesliga season is available for free until mid September; after that it will cost €9.99 per month.

Finally, T-Home is adding a large number of internet radio stations to its line-up. More than 2,500 German and international stations will be indexed and searchable.
