NDS confirms Telecom Italia presence

NDS has confirmed that its VideoGuard conditional access system is in place on the Telecom Italia IPTV platform, securing video-on-demand and broadcast content.

Although the security system has been in use for some time this is the first public statement that has been made on the matter. Telecom Italia trialled Microsoft TV technology in 2004, before moving to a basket of technology suppliers based around Alcatel Lucent.

At the end of June 2008, Telecom Italia had 180,000 subscribers to its IPTV service.
