Spain is one of Europe's most backward countries on HDTV. There is only one channel, Canal+ HD, on satellite pay TV operator Sogecable's Digital+. Now the company will launch two new HD channels before next Christmas: one screening movies and the other covering sports. Sogecable said the new channels would be HD versions of Canal+ while the already existing Canal+ HD will be multiplexed so it can be watched at different times of the day. The operator is preparing an HD package with Canal+ HD and the two new HD channels although price is yet to be confirmed. Canal+ HD Sports will offer important sporting events such as NBA matches, the Champions’ League football, NFL matches and other golf and tennis competitions. As for the HD movie channel it will broadcast premieres with Dolby Digital 5.1 sound. Source:RapidTVNews
