Jonathan Ross comeback show confirmed

The presenter said he was looking forward to being back on screen with his chat show, Friday Night With Jonathan Ross.

Posting online, he said all guests had been booked but he didn't want to give too much away. "Don't want to jinx things. First show already looking great!" he wrote.

Ross will resume his Saturday morning Radio 2 show the following day. His other BBC One programme, Film 2009, will be back on January 26.

The BBC confirmed the comeback date for the chat show, which has been off screen since October.

Ross was suspended without pay after leaving a series of obscene answerphone messages for the Fawlty Towers star Andrew Sachs during a recording of Russell Brand's radio show. The episode sparked 45,000 complaints and led to the resignation of both Brand and Radio 2's controller, Lesley Douglas.

Ross plans to joke about his enforced absence in his opening monologue. However, nervous BBC bosses will vet the content beforehand to ensure that no further offence is caused to Mr Sachs. The show is pre-recorded a day before broadcast.

The BBC intends to keep Ross on a tight leash and has demanded that the presenter tone down his risque act. In the past, he has caused a storm by asking Tory leader David Cameron whether he had enjoyed sexual fantasies about Lady Thatcher, and by propositioning Gwyneth Paltrow.
