Astra denies quitting Spain

Astra Marketing Ibérica, SES Astra's Spanish subsidiary, has denied it will leave the Spanish market due to the favourable treatment it says the national government is giving to Hispasat in the future licence for satellite DTT distribution for 'uncovered' terrestrial areas.

SES Astra claims Hispasat is taking advantage of its privileged relations with Spain's government in order to develop its terrestrial business. The main responsable of this situaion is Spain's main television distribution network Abertis Telecom (Hispasat's main shareholder).

Astra critizices the government for treating Hispasat favourabily and says this treatment "goes against more efficient services in the final phases of the terrestrial coverage such as the satellite".
