Remote record TV shows from your iPhone

Forgetting to record a programme is always irritating. However, a new iPhone application which allows you to record programmes while on the move could make this nuisance a distant memory.

Launched today, Sky's new Remote Record application is available for free from the Apple Store. The application lets iPhone users with a Sky+ or Sky+HD set-top box set recordings wherever they are in the world.

It offers access to the satellite broadcaster's 7-day electronic programme guide to browse and record listings by time, day or programme name from anywhere in the world.

Increasingly busy lifestyles and long work days will no doubt make this application a must have. While not enough on its own to attract people to switch to an iPhone, it is one of a number of applications offered on the device which make it stand out from the crowd.

If the application is simple to use, we will be able to use our spare time to plan our week's TV viewing - whether sitting on the bus or waiting for a plane on the other side of the world.

With Sky customers having more time to record their favourite shows - and subsequently skipping the adverts - the advertising industry faces further challenges.

Whatever the repercussions, this could be Sky's best kept secret. If it proves a success, it could revolutionise how we watch television.
