Gadget Show live: 30,000 technology fans expected at NEC

THOUSANDS of gadget geeks are descending on the NEC for an exhibition of the biggest names in technology.

About 30,000 people from the West Midlands and beyond are expected to pack out the Gadget Show Live, which runs until Sunday.

Based on the popular channel Five programme, the huge event features about 150 exhibitors showcasing the best in computing, mobile technology and home entertainment under one roof.

Presenters Jason Bradbury, Suzi Perry and Jon Bentley entertained the crowds with live performances and high-energy challenges in the Gadget Show Super Theatre.

Presenter Suzi Perry said the weekend promised to be a “fun-filled” event.

She said: “Packed with top class exhibitors and a raft of innovative features, it’s an unrivalled opportunity for anyone with an interest in gadgetry to have hands-on access to the very latest technology on the market, all in one place.”

Among those to pay a visit to the event was retail manager Stephen Salter, from Sutton Coldfield.

The 22-year-old said: “I saw an advert for the show on the internet and thought I should come down to check it out.

“I’m pretty much into my gadgets and computers and I sometimes waste most of my pay cheque on buying new things.”

And Mark Sanders, from Castle Bromwich, said the gaming section had caught his eye.

The 22-year-old engineer said: “I’ve been to the Play Station area and had a play around with all the Sony stuff.

“The best thing about coming to something like this is you just don’t know what you are going to see.”

Angela Bowmer had travelled from Derbyshire with her family as a birthday treat for her son.

The 40-year-old, who works in Erdington, said: “I’m not very techno-minded at all but it’s my son’s birthday today and I promised to bring him here with two of his friends.

“It’s been quite exciting seeing all these things on show.”

And former The Apprentice contestant Raef Bjayou put in an appearance at the Ultra Motor Bike exhibition stand.

Self-confessed gadget fan Raef said: “I’m a real gadget fiend like most men, and lots of women, are.

“I love gadgets, even though they do have a habit of being over-complicated.”
