Blinkx deal to allow web video search via TV

Blinkx, the video search engine, and Miniweb, the interactive service provider, have formalised a technology integration agreement that will allow web video to be searched and viewed on a TV set.

Under the terms of the agreement Miniweb will use Blinkx's software for video search, syndication, recommendations, targeting and personalisation as part of its online services platform.

The link-up will provide technology that allows audiences to search broadcast television and internet video from multiple sources using a single Miniweb-enabled, broadband-connected device.

"Combining broadcast and broadband TV will provide audiences with access to an incredibly rich and diverse universe of video content," said Suranga Chandratillake, founder and chief executive of Blinkx.

The result of the tie-up could also provide broadcasters with opportunities for targeted advertising and content based on user profiles.

Andrew Carver, chief executive of Miniweb said: "We're seeing great interest from network operators, content owners and TV device manufacturers in our platform as it helps them deliver and manage the convergence of traditional broadcast programming with internet delivered video content. This also will allow web-like business models to emerge on TV, which enables our business partners to benefit from valuable targeted advertising and revenue shares from TV viewer transactions."
