Optus D3 launch set for August | |
Australian communications company Optus has confirmed that its new D3 satellite is scheduled for launch in mid-August by an Ariane-5 rocket from the Guiana Space Center in Kourou, French Guiana.
D3 will increase Optus’ fleet capacity by over 30%. The satellite will provide new business opportunities in broadcast TV and DTH as well as new data services and services bundling.
The launch will be Optus’ third in four years, following on from the launch of D1 in October 2006 and D2 in October 2007.
Paul Sheridan, director of Optus Satellite, said: “Optus has been the leading provider of satellite services across Australia and New Zealand for nearly 30 years, having successfully launched and operated a total of eight satellites since 1985, with the ninth, Optus D3, to follow in mid-August.”
