Upgrade problems plague Canal Digitaal

The Dutch DTH platform Canal Digitaal Satelliet is plagued by serious problems due to the card swap currently under way.

As a result of the difficulties and overload of the call centre, CDS has decided to broadcast the main Dutch and Belgian channels unencrypted for the time being. During the past few days, viewers have bombarded the operator with complaints about loss of signal after inserting the new card.

The problem seems to be mainly affecting receivers, which have no official certification. The operator posted the new cards, which were activated until June 30 and had to be reactivated over the air for viewing from July 1.

However, with a number of receivers, the operator ID update failed to load. Following a software update for most of these receivers, the Management ID also seemed to fail, according to statements from the operator.

At the moment, the platform is in the middle of a huge operation replacing all MediaGuard cards with the new version 3.
