ESPN announces first 17 televised Premier League fixtures

ESPN has announced the first 17 of 46 live Premier League matches it will broadcast during 2009–10 season. Its televised coverage will begin with Everton v Arsenal on the opening day of the season, and other high-profile matches include Liverpool v Aston Villa on 24 August and Tottenham v Manchester United on 12 September. All will be shown in Britain on ESPN's soon-to-be-launched standard and high-definition channels.

"We're clearly delighted to be able to broadcast 46 Premier League matches this season," said Lynne Frank, ESPN's managing director for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. "We are pleased to be a part of the beautiful game, and look forward to delivering fans of all 20 Premier League clubs top quality coverage as the story of the season unfolds."

Saturday 23 August West Ham v Tottenham, 1.30pm

Monday 24 August Liverpool v Aston Villa, 8pm

Saturday 29 August Chelsea v Burnley, 12.45pm

Saturday 12 September Tottenham v Manchester United, 5.30pm

Saturday 19 September West Ham v Liverpool, 5.30pm

Saturday 26 September Fulham v Arsenal, 5.30pm

Monday 28 September Manchester City v West Ham, 8pm

Saturday 3 October Manchester United v Sunderland, 5.30pm

Monday 5 October Aston Villa v Manchester City, 8pm

...and they've nicked BBC's Ray Stubbs to be their "anchor man" (Guardian Friday, Daily Mail today Jul 18)...

Two questions...

1. Will he be forced to call it 'soccer'...?

2. Isn't his hiring a waste of money as the 15-minute half-time interval will carry 10 mins of advertising anyway?
