News Corp’s Italian DTH operation grew subscriber numbers by 235,000 over the last 12 months but failed to increase numbers further in the quarter to June 30, 2009. Sky Italia closed News Corp’s 2009 fiscal year with 4.8 million subscribers as the satcaster faced increasing competition from the DTT platform Mediaset Premium and the forthcoming launch of the free-to-view satellite operation TivùSat. Operating income of $155 million (€107.6 million) was $57 million down on the fourth quarter of 2008, while full year income was $393 million, a decrease of $26 million versus the $419 million in 2008.
