Astra2Connect tops 50,000 subs | | SES Astra’s broadband by satellite service Astra2Connect says it has now topped the 50,000 subscriber mark. The service was launched in 2007.
The company also announced that it has introduced new service packages that significantly increase the available speeds of the service, with download rates of up to 4,096Kbps and upload rates of up to 360Kbps. The expanded offering enables customers to choose from a variety of flexible service packages in order to meet their requirements for high-speed internet access and high quality internet-based telephone calls (VoIP).
The expanded Astra2Connect service includes packages with download speeds ranging from 256Kbps to 4,096Kbps, and allows end users to connect to the internet with free download volumes at all times. The expanded service also offers volume limited packages with a fixed download volume of 2 - 4 GB per month, and a dedicated business package featuring an increased upload of up to 360Kbps and advanced VoIP connection for businesses.
Launched in early 2007, Astra2Connect satellite technology offers highly reliable broadband internet access, especially in areas without or with limited terrestrial broadband networks. The customer premises equipment – a modem and satellite dish – is low cost and delivered with a tool for easy self-installation.
The service is now available in 14 countries throughout Europe. Most recently, the service was expanded to Africa, where it is offered in 10 countries in Central and Eastern Africa.
“The new range of different speed and volume service packages responds to the increased market demand for highly flexible service. It makes Astra2Connect even more attractive and an optimal solution for end user requirements,” said Norbert Willems, MD of Astra Broadband Services. “Astra2Connect is cost-efficient and perfectly comparable to terrestrial internet networks, and is the ideal solution for households in regions underserved by broadband.”
