Eutelsat picks up 24 France TV ch’s

Eutelsat and France Télévisions have signed a long-term contract that will add all of the France Télévisions’ regional channels onto its Atlantic Bird 3 satellite located at 5° West.

This is a major order, and it goes ‘live’ on October 28. Viewers need a subscription-free Fransat receiver in order to pick up the transmissions, but they’ll then be able to access all 24 of France TV’s regional services. Eutelsat is already carrying 18 assorted national channels from French broadcasters, but France Télévisions is the country’s public broadcaster.

“This new initiative, which enables viewers to access the regional window of their choice, forms part of the progressive digitisation of France's broadcasting network,” said a press statement. “It will benefit viewers beyond range of terrestrial reception after analogue switch-off, as well as homes already equipped for Direct-to-Home analogue TV reception from Atlantic Bird 3 and who will simply need to change their decoder to switch to digital.”
