MGM, Media Park form TV channel for Spain | | US media giant Metro Goldwyn Mayer has teamed up with Spanish operator Media Park to launch an MGM-branded TV channel in Spain.
The move is part of MGM's ongoing strategy to partner with foreign TV companies for overseas channels, which then license content from the studio's library of some 4,000 films.
MGM division MGM Networks, which is working with Media Park, now has TV channel interests in 110 countries, more than quadrupling its worldwide holdings in three years. MGM-branded channels now operate in North and South America, Europe, Africa and the Asia/Pacific region, the companies said.
Media Park, which produces seven channels reaching almost one million subscribers, will re-launch its "canalstar" channel as the MGM Channel, and it expects to be on air this summer. Shows and movies will be dubbed into Castilian Spanish.
The MGM Channel in Spain will transmit from Media Park's facilities in Barcelona. Media Park is 76-per cent owned by Spanish power utility Iberdrola.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed. |
