Shares in TiVo, the US personal video recorder (PVR) maker, slipped 6% yesterday after UK rival NDS said it would begin supplying digital satellite operator DirecTV with its PVR technology in the first quarter of 2005. DirecTV is currently TiVo's biggest customer source, but the relationship was questioned after Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation took control of DirecTV. News Corp also owns NDS. DirecTV sold its stake in TiVo in June, and its representative on the TiVo board subsequently quit. As far as TiVo is concerned, it has a contract to supply PVRs to DirecTV until 2007. A TiVo spokesman said the NDS announcement was "not a surprise". | ||
