Canal Digital enables Swedish DTT access

Canal Digital, the Nordic Region's largest TV distributor is providing equipment, free of charge, to its customers in Sweden, enabling them to access Sweden's DTT channels. A new, twin receiver decoder - the ComboBox - gives Swedish viewers access to all TV channels distributed via satellite from Canal Digital, as well as all the channels carried on the countries DTT network.

The ComboBox allows access to encrypted broadcasts, with pay-TV operator MTG encrypting all their channels with effect from September 1. Canal Digital's customers will still be able to access MTG's free-to-air channels via a cardholder (CA module), and a programme card from Swedish terrestrial network distributor Boxer. The cardholder will be freely available to ComboBox customers from Canal Digital.

"We are pleased to be able to offer our customers the best TV content. We want to give our customers freedom of choice and simple TV services. In partnership with the serious TV channels and distributors we have now developed a Nordic standard for transmission and reception of TV content (Nordig). Canal Digital's ComboBox was of course developed with an open standard, which ensures access to all the channels in the digital terrestrial network," said CEO of Canal Digital, Christian Albech.
