France Telecom extends DTV

France Telecom's Ma Ligne TV service, which provides digital broadband television and fixed line phone services in partnership with the French commercial TV group TF1, has been extended across France.

It now reaches the cities of Strasbourg, Toulouse, Grenoble and Saint-Etienne. At the same time, the former French telecoms monopoly has launched the same service in Lyons, Marseilles, Nice, Strasbourg and Toulouse with Canal Plus.

Speaking during the launch in Toulouse, France Telecom chairman Thierry Breton said that, only 18 months ago, the idea of either the internet or digital television giving a new lease of life to fixed telephony would have been unimaginable.

At the same time, the service enables TF1 to broadcast via broadband to French homes which are not equipped with a satellite dish.
