Tandberg launches HD encoding platform

Tandberg Television has launched the world’s first high definition encoding platform for MPEG-4 part 10 (H.264/AVC) and Windows Media 9 Series Advanced Profile. The solution is built on the company’s Intelligent Compression Engine (ICE) and uses new advanced codecs to achieve real-time delivery of HD images at substantially lower bit-rates than through MPEG-2. Combined with statistical multiplexing Tandberg says it is now possible to contain seven HD services in a single 36MHz satellite transponder or on terrestrial networks to include two HD channels where previously only one was possible.
