New HD broadcast by Sat 1

A second high definition simulcast is to take place in Germany just six weeks after the initial transmission. ProSiebenSat.1 Produktion and SES-Astra are to broadcast Die Nibelungen – Der Fluch des Drachen [The Nibelungen – The Curse of the Dragon] on November 29 and 30. Broadcaster Sat 1 is describing the HDTV/SD simulcast as the “TV event of the year”. The two-part movie about Siegfried, Brunhild and Princess Kriemhild will also be transmitted with a Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack. The HD broadcast will be played out in HDCAM SR (1080i/50Hz) and delivered to an MPEG-2 HD encoder with a data rate in the region of 1.4 gigabits/s. The transmission will be broadcast on 11.671GHz H, SR 22.000.

(grin) Didn't know they were going to be transmitting this in HDTV: wish I could see it. My husband and I have a particular interest in the thing (as you'll see if you check the "profiles | writers" page at http://www.ring-of-the-nibelungs.com).

Thanks for posting this, anyway. Possibly I can get a friend in Germany to tape/DVDburn it...

Best! -- Diane
