Sky One lines up doc slot

Sky One is launching a new Wednesday night slot for authored documentaries in the new year, with programmes to be fronted by Times columnist Julie Burchill, her Sun counterpart Jane Moore and Bob Geldof's daughter, Peaches.
The new Wednesday night slot on the BSkyB-owned pay-TV channel will host Burchill's documentary on the chav phenomenon, in which the outspoken columnist is expected to defend working class culture and attack what she perceives as middle class snobs who use the word as a derogatory phrase.

Other 60-minute documentaries to be broadcast on Wednesday nights as part of Sky One's winter 2005 schedule include Inside the Mind of a Teenager, fronted by Peaches Geldof and made by her father's independent production company, Ten Alps, and Who are the Beckhams?, presented by Moore.

Sky One's factual programming for 2005 also feature Camp Michael Jackson, looking at the hysteria surrounding the pop star's court case, and The Secret Life of..., a series in which comedian Arthur Smith explores the UK's most eccentric, outspoken and shocking inhabitants.

Drama highlights in the Sky One winter schedule include Rescue Me, starring comedian Denis Leary as a New York fireman struggling to come to terms with the death of a colleague and close friend on 9/11.

US imports 24 and Nip/Tuck - featuring guest appearances from Vanessa Redgrave, Joan Rivers and Famke Janssen - will be returning, but both will move from weekdays to Sunday nights.

Sky One, which has been the UK multichannel home of The Simpsons for more than a decade, will also be launching two new US cartoons - Tripping the Rift and Father of the Pride.
