AEPOC: Piracy will get worse

AEPOC, the European Association for the Protection of Encrypted Works and Services, says that 2005 will see distribution of audio-visual services increasingly being extended to new platforms, creating new breeding grounds for piracy. AEPOC says more and more audio-visual pay-content, such as news-streams, sport events and concerts, is being offered on the Internet and being delivered to home networks. These small networks serve a variety of devices including home theatres, personal video recorders (PVRs), PCs, audio-clients and portable audio players.

The near future will also see a significant growth of content delivery for mobile devices such as personal digital assistants (PDAs) and mobile telephones. The proliferation of audio-visual content will create new risks of piracy at each and every stage of delivery and consumption of content, resulting in a host of new frontiers in the fight against piracy.
"The slogan 'content everywhere' could directly translate into 'piracy everywhere' turning these new opportunities into new, serious threats for the media industry," explains Jean Grenier, president of AEPOC at the organisations annual meeting. "Existing legislation and enforcement priorities must be reviewed across Europe to take the new reality into account."

Anything that deflects the people with the pointy-heads away from our door and stretches their resources further, the better it must be.

Bring on more technology.

The last sentence is the sting in the tail.
It is my belief that what individuals do in their own homes using their own receivers and programmable cards, soft cams and keys is not illegal in an EU country, especially if the service being cleared is not sold in the country where the deed is being done. It would be illegal to sell on that service, as some people do.
In the US, they have a draconian copyright law that makes the sort of thing we are doing illegal.
One can imagine the heads of companies who provide TV (we know a few) sucking up to an EU commisioner or two, in the sort of way that an EU commisioner might like to be sucked up to (and I can think of two) and we might also get a law like the one in US.
After all, experience tells us that the EU is corrupt from near the top to near the bottom. Their accounts have not been signed off by the auditors in living memory because no one can see where the money goes. If it went somewhere legal, it would be visible. The EU is not there for the consumer. It is there for failed politicians like Kinnock and Mandelson and Industry.
The price of sat services in Europe is ludicrous. The cost of a Nova card in Greece is ourageous compared to the average wage. On top of that, people who offer a minimal service are able to make money selling the cards on in another country. All the EU has to do is declare illegal, contracts that forbid e.g. TPS to market a card to a resident in UK -- and people will benefit, while Hollywood and the big footie leagues will lose some of their constipating income. Mr Beckham can spend his money on what he likes. He has just spent 500 grand on a christening party for his kids. Thats his business and his choice if he has the money. But I think overall, Europe would be a happier place if people had to pay less for Sly and the Liga and David had to tighten his belt and make do with 50 grand parties.

Wow it must have been good beer but in principle yes I totally agree. How can authorities expect to screw the public ad infinitum. There must come a time when people become cleverer than authorities (pg that will be soon). The WEB has become a tool which is LEGAL and used desired by all. If people find a way of exploiting that and the 'Authorities have not either the nouse or the resources to combat that then tough shit'. Information is a right to every individual on earth however they wish to glean that information. Go back 50 years and that was acheived by women taking men to bed to obtain state secrets, fortunately that situation is no longer in existance. Now we just surf and do the business. Regardless of the past 2 weeks happenings, whilst it may give some exec pleasure in knowing that someone is paying for the 'So called Crimes' at the end of the day that smug executive has to sit back and watch at least another 100,000 people continue to exploit that loophole which he would probably exploit himself if he was not employed by them. If I was his boss I would sack him on the spot. You may be able to control a country but try controlling the world and you ain't got a chance.
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ONE AND ALL

The EU stinks because it is corrupt, inefficient and wasteful
The only problem is that no one is prepared to say that it is so because they all want their cut ( their cut far exceeds the average persons wage in the UK) e.g Neil Kinnock a failed Labour Prime Minister earns at least £1,000,000 per year and has done for the last 10 years for WHAT?????!!!!!

I would have thought by now living in the age that we do.
That Hollywood would finally see the big picture and someone
would finally make a pan European provider and broadcast to
all of Europe. But it just goes to show that the sum of the parts is bigger
then the whole, because Hollywood can sell the same movie 20
different times. If Hollywood does not want to do it on its own, I think
it should be up to the EU to say that all providers must provide service
through out the EU. What ever happened to the open sky policy as it
stands now their is a monopoly in every country in the EU. That would bring
the prices down and provide a better service to all. Members of this forum
and forums like this should finally stand up and be counted we should start
an E-mail drive. The providers complain of piracy but if there is no alternative
for many x pats who must pay gray market prices for stuff. I am a member of
more then one forum an the members complain about the high prices.
May be it is time we took a stand if every one on this forum and forums like
this one took the time to send a e-mail or better yet a letter we might see some results.

PS can any one post were I might send an e-mail or letter too
Thanks Schnuffi

EVEN the MORONS IN the corridoors of power in brussels KNOW it would be impossible to enforce a LAW on TV viewing/piracy, SO NOMATTER WHO bribes em to attempt this
it would never be workable.
The laws in place now "in the UK" are quite strong "but unworkable".

eg (i know this guy personally) a man has a big motorised dish (working daily) at the rear of his house, he has also bought a PLASMA TV from currys, and the clincher "he subscribes to NTHELL tvpackage+broadband,

by law does he need a TV licence ????????????
YES ?????????????????
Has he been taken to court for not having 1
NO ??????????????

WHY ??????????
because he wont let em in "a polite fookoff" to the licence Dudes (really off duty postmen) on the door step (and the police dont have enough evidence to get a warrent) and have the man hours to waste. as all that would happen if STEVE MAGARRET and DANO were kicking the door in (a simple switch off) all evidence has gone (time wasted)
PLUS the fact that a warrent has NEVER been issued in the UK for this offence,
So nomatter what brussles think up (enforceing it is the real problem)
So they attack SERVERS, card /cam manufactors, the ODD pirate card dealer,
Though i still think Dream multi (should have spanked em for stopping the production of the Magic Module in Germany) FAR TOO MANY LOOPHOLE ALREADY, FOR EVERY DOOR THEY SHUT 10 cans of worms OPEN.
