US cable giants Comcast and Cox Communications have acquired the North American assets of digital interactive TV software provider Liberate Technologies for $82m. Liberate - which develops interactive software for cable set-top boxes - is being purchased by Double C Technologies, a joint venture of the cable groups majority owned and controlled by Comcast. "Comcast believes strongly in the future of interactive television and the need for customers to have TV on their terms. This acquisition ... will enable Comcast to move faster toward creating a more interactive television experience," said Steve Silva, Comcast Executive Vice President, New Business Development. | ||
