TF1 and M6 forced to change analogue frequencies | | The French Council of State has found against TF1 and M6 in their appeal opposing the CSA's 1500 planned frequency changes in preparation for the launch of DTT, and the two must now cease transmitting on the frequencies reserved for DTT and start transmitting on the new analogue frequencies they have been allocated.
The frequency changes concern local relays. In April 2002, the CSA had decided on a first phase of 17 frequency changes in preparation for DTT; four of them concern TF1 and two M6. France Televisions and Arte have carried out the changes, but TF1 and M6, which have publicly announced their opposition to DTT, refused, claiming the operation would be too complex, reception would deteriorate, and there was a risk of losing audience.
If the two broadcasters fail to switch frequencies, M6 will be fined €15,000 a day, and TF1, €30,000 a day; considerably less than the amount that had been requested by the CSA. |
