MTG blasts Swedish piracy law

MTG President and CEO Hans-Holger Albrecht has sharply attacked the Swedish Government for being soft on TV piracy: "Sweden is the only country in Europe where possession of pirate cards is not illegal," he said, demanding the Authorities bring legislation in line with EU anti-piracy laws and pledging to prosecute the hackers.

The company’s DTH platform Viasat has recently signed a deal to switch its encryption technology from Viaccess coding, which has been particularly hard hit by the pirates, to NDS’s VideoGuard encryption, which Albrecht regards as, ‘the safest system on the market today’. Viasat will start installing VideoGuard cards in all its new set top boxes, and existing box owners will have their old cards replaced shortly.
