NZ Sky TV: Interruptions Due To Optus Satellite Failure
WELLINGTON (Dow Jones)--Pay television operator Sky Network Television Ltd. (SKY.NZ) said Friday that two recent interruptions to its service are due to the failure of part of a satellite operated by Optus Networks Pty Ltd.

New Zealand-based Sky TV said in a statement that the B1 satellite's primary control processor has failed, and service is now being provided by a backup processor.

Sky TV said it is reviewing with Optus, a subsidiary of Singapore Telecommunications Ltd. (T48.SG), options to provide additional backup in case the original backup processer also fails.

Sky TV added that it had earlier agreed to purchase additional capacity on two new satellites from Optus, with the first scheduled to be completed in early 2006 and the second satellite 18 months later. "
