Canal Digital ensures continued TV2 distribution

Canal Digital Norge has signed a contract with TV2 for exclusive satellite distribution rights for the TV-channel for another two years. Canal Digital submitted the highest bid in a tender competition.

"We are very happy to have secured the rights to go on distributing TV2. Canal Digital's customers currently get TV2 in the basic tier, and we want to continue offering that. That's why it was important to secure this agreement,' says Executive Vice President Stig Eide Sivertsen Canal Digital currently have 875,000 Nordic DTH customers.

Norwegian households will now continue to receive TV2 in their basic tier. TV2 is the only commercial channel in Norway offering national coverage. The agreement between Canal Digital Norge and TV2 regulates exclusive satellite distribution of the TV2 channel. Canal Digital will also be distributing TV2-Zebra. 'Putting together the best and most relevant TV package is important if we are to meet the increasingly tough competition in the market.

To achieve this, it is necessary to enter into individual agreements; something our competitors are doing as well', says Stig Eide Sivertsen. 'One of the reasons that exclusive distribution is important is that unlike some of our competitors, Canal Digital does not own any channels', Stig Eide Sivertsen points out.

The renewed distribution agreement between TV2 and Canal Digital comes into force from 9 October 2005.
