Satellite channel banned in India

The Government on Monday banned the transmission of the satellite channel `Free X-TV' in the country for showing objectionable content as it could "adversely affect public morality.''

An order prohibiting the transmission and re-transmission of the channel has been issued.

It has been forwarded to the Indian Broadcasting Foundation and all cable operators and multi-system operators.

The order has also been sent to the Chief Secretaries and Director-Generals of Police of all States and Union Territories, besides District Magistrates of all districts as they are the officials authorised by the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995, to implement such orders.

Historically, banning channels / driving stuff underground will just make it more appealing. In any case various adult channel signals are still available direct to India from satellites out of Indian control.

Seeing what a repressed society India is with regards to satellite tv content its amazing how often the programmes transmitted on the Indian tv services feature busty young Indian women running under sprinklers / fountains / get hosed down / fall in the river etc.

Some of the outfits dont leave much to the imagination

there in nothing that can stop porn in india. everybody watches on the video cd player with the pirated cds costing no more than 0.30-0.50pence. less than 1% of indian homes have direct-to-home setups. mostly depend on cable tv which is controlled but the cd market is getting beyond govt.'s control due to decentralised production.

what does this order transmission and re transmission means?
is a person viewing this channel personelly in his home is also violating law?
it is banned because some reports of showing this channel by cable operators
come up in media.
