The first Norwegian-built satellite, the NCUBE-2, was successfully launched on Thursday morning from a Russian space base in Plesetsk, Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK) reported. Over 80 Norwegian students have developed, tested and built the satellite, which weighs about one kilo and contains 1000 components, including a miniature computer, antennae, steering systems, solar panels and batteries. The satellite will monitor naval traffic and follow the movements of a pair of reindeer on the Hardangervidda (Hardanger plateau), according to NRK. Besides student efforts from a range of Norway's top technical institutes, the project has received support from the University of Oslo and the Norwegian Defense Research Establishment (FFI). Norwegian industry has helped out with equipment and technical assistance, the report said. Source: Xinhuanet | ||
