Iran does not play a role in manufacturing and launching its own satellites, said one of the founders of Iran's Aerospace Organization, adding that the country can only a user of satellite services, said ILNA. Ahmad Roshanfekr-Rad, who is also a researcher and a member of the National Energy Committee, told ILNA that Iranian companies cannot yet manufacture satellites, stressing that Iran has become self-sufficient only in the techniques of using satellite services. He rejected reports that Iran can now manufacture satellites, adding that the country cannot even launch its own satellites. Noting that there are plans to launch five satellites in the next five years, the official said Zohreh satellite is the only one that has been registered internationally as an Iranian satellite. "Having a satellite does not mean constructing it," he said, adding that a national satellite is different from a national car. "A national satellite is one that we run," he added. Roshanfekr-Rad said that security of information means little as long as countries like the US can easily steal information from other countries' satellites. Iran is planning to launch five new satellites during the Fourth Five-Year Plan (2005-2010). Iran's Aerospace Organization's chief, Ahmad Taleb-Zadeh, told reporters earlier that Iran's first satellite, Sina-1, which was launched last month, is now functioning properly in space. However Zohreh satellite project has encountered certain problems regarding insurance and bank guarantees the Iranian side has demanded from its Russian partner, he said. He said that Mesbah satellite has been transferred to the launching station and expressed hope that it will be launched in the near future. Sina-1 is the first Iranian satellite built jointly with Russia. It was launched from Polstesk space base in Murmansk province in northwestern Russia last month. The satellite will be used mainly for telecommunication purposes and taking photographs of the earth. Source: Iran mania | ||
